Cancun International Airport (CUN) is a busy hub, and getting to La Isla Cancún requires a plan. For maximum convenience, a pre-booked private transfer offers door-to-door service. Drivers will meet you just outside customs, bypassing the main terminal chaos.

Shared shuttles are a more budget-friendly option, but expect stops at multiple hotels before reaching yours, adding significant time to your journey. Taxis are readily available, but agree on the fare before getting in, as meters are rarely used for airport runs. Be aware that Uber operates in a gray area here; while technically available, drivers can be hesitant to pick up at the airport due to local taxi union regulations, leading to potential cancellations or surcharges.

Parking can be challenging and expensive, and navigating the busy streets, especially in the Hotel Zone, is often more stressful than using public transport or taxis. The biggest pitfall is the ubiquitous car rental insurance scam, where exorbitant, mandatory fees are added at the last minute.

Unless you have specific plans to visit remote archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá or Tulum far outside the city and are prepared for these insurance costs, it's best to rely on other transportation methods. La Isla Cancún is easily accessible without a personal vehicle.
