This page is maintained by the Cancun Compass team to explain what data we collect when you use cancuncompass.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is written in plain English - if anything is unclear, contact us at hello@cancuncompass.com.

Who we are

Cancun Compass is a locally-run travel planning service for Cancun, Tulum and the Riviera Maya. We operate the website, the search experience, the trip planner and the concierge features.

What we collect

  • Account data - if you sign in: email, display name, and profile details you provide.
  • Trip data - trips, itineraries, saves, notes and collaborators you invite.
  • Usage data - anonymous page views, searches, clicks, scroll depth and dwell time so we can improve pages and recommendations.
  • Device data - IP address, browser, device type and approximate location (city-level), used for security and localisation.
  • Booking / contact data - when you request a booking or contact a business, the details you submit are shared with that provider so they can respond.

How we use it

  • Provide search, trip planning, concierge and booking features.
  • Personalise recommendations and remember preferences.
  • Measure which content is helpful and continuously improve pages.
  • Prevent abuse, spam and fraud.
  • Send transactional email (booking confirmations, trip invites).

Who we share it with

We only share personal data with:

  • Businesses you contact - hotels, tour operators or restaurants you request a booking from.
  • Infrastructure providers we rely on to run the site (hosting, database, email delivery, analytics).
  • Authorities only when legally required.

We do not sell your personal data.

Cookies & analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. For measurement we use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC acting as our processor), plus our own aggregate usage records. We do not send names, email addresses or other directly identifying information to Google, and Google Signals / advertising features are off.

Advertising and personalisation signals are denied by default worldwide and only run if you explicitly accept them. In the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Brazil, South Africa, Thailand, South Korea, Turkey, India and Japan nothing beyond essential cookies runs until you accept. Elsewhere analytics runs on a notice / opt-out basis and you can reject it at any time. A Global Privacy Control browser signal is honoured as a binding opt-out.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer or on our Cookie Policy page; withdrawing stops further non-essential tracking and clears our analytics identifiers.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask us to delete your account at any time. Email hello@cancuncompass.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Retention

We keep account and trip data while your account is active. Google Analytics event-level data is retained for 14 months and our own aggregate usage data for up to 24 months.

International transfers

Our hosting and database run on infrastructure that may process data outside your country, and Google Analytics processing may involve transfers to the United States. Google relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses; we enable IP redaction and avoid sending identifying fields.

Children

Cancun Compass is not directed at children under 13. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
