Phone & connectivity

Will your phone work, and what's the cheapest data option?

Will my phone work in Mexico?

Yes - bands are compatible with US/EU/CA carriers.

Mexican networks use the same LTE/5G bands as North America and most of Europe. Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked if you plan to swap SIMs or use an eSIM.

Do I need roaming or an eSIM?

eSIM is usually cheaper for stays over 3 days.

Carrier international roaming day-passes are convenient for short trips. For longer stays an eSIM from Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi or a local Telcel prepaid is typically far cheaper.

Which Mexican carrier has the best coverage?

Telcel - strongest nationwide, including beaches and ruins.

Telcel has the widest 4G/5G footprint, especially outside cities. AT&T Mexico is competitive in the Hotel Zone. Movistar is reliable in cities but weaker in remote areas.

Is hotel/public Wi-Fi reliable?

Hotel-Zone Wi-Fi is generally fine; use a VPN for sensitive work.

Most resorts, caf茅s and coworking spaces offer free Wi-Fi. Speeds vary; treat any public Wi-Fi as untrusted for banking. A reputable VPN is a good idea for remote workers.
