Cancun International Airport (CUN) is about a 30-minute drive from La Vaquita Cancun. For a seamless arrival, pre-booked private transfers offer the most comfort. Drivers will meet you just outside customs, bypassing the often chaotic taxi and shuttle touts.

Shared shuttles are a more budget-friendly option, though they might make several stops before reaching your hotel, adding time to your journey. Taxis are readily available, but agree on the fare before getting in, as meters are rarely used. While ride-sharing apps like Uber operate in Cancun, their legality can be a grey area, and drivers may be hesitant to pick up passengers directly from the airport terminal due to local taxi union regulations.

If you opt for Uber, be prepared to walk a short distance from the official pickup zones.

The Hotel Zone is surprisingly long, stretching for miles. The R1 and R2 public buses are the most cost-effective way to travel along Boulevard Kukulcan, stopping frequently at hotels, malls, and attractions. They run 24/7, though frequency decreases overnight.

Taxis are plentiful but negotiate your fare before setting off, as meters are rarely used. Many resorts and restaurants within the Hotel Zone are walkable from each other, but distances can be deceiving under the midday sun. La Vaquita Cancun is centrally located on this strip, making it accessible via bus or a short taxi ride from most hotels in the area.

To explore downtown Cancun, known as El Centro, the R1 bus is your best bet. It's cheap, frequent, and takes you directly to areas like Mercado 28. While generally safe during the day, exercise standard precautions when venturing off the main tourist strip, especially after dark.

Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings. Taxis are also an option, but ensure the driver understands your destination in El Centro. For a different perspective away from the resort crowds, downtown offers a more authentic slice of local life and is worth the short bus ride.

Renting a car in Cancun offers flexibility for exploring further afield, such as day trips to Chichén Itzá or Tulum. However, be extremely cautious with insurance. Many rental agencies present aggressive upselling tactics for additional insurance, often claiming the basic coverage is insufficient.

Research and book your rental well in advance from reputable companies. Driving can be chaotic, with aggressive local drivers and sometimes unclear road signage. Parking can also be challenging in popular areas.
